Body Contouring

If you recently experienced drastic weight loss through diet, exercise, or bariatric surgery (a.k.a. gastric bypass), you may find that your new body is not quite yet up to par. Saggy-baggy skin is a common complaint for people who lose a lot of weight. Don't let this condition ruin all the time an effort you spent on yourself, consult with Dr. Barber to find out how a body lift might be just what you need to reach your aesthetic goals.

Indications

When you lose weight, you usually lose it all over your body, but some areas like your thighs, buttocks, and stomach may be most affected. Excessive weight loss can lead to loose and droopy skin. Separate procedures to tighten up each area can be costly and time consuming. The answer is a complete body lift, which is like a facelift for your whole body.

With a body lift procedure, Dr. Barber can tighten up all the areas where you may be experiencing loose skin, particularly the stomach, hips, buttocks, and thighs. Excess skin can cause many problems physically and psychologically.

  • Skin rashes
  • Excessive sweating
  • Embarrassing body shape
  • Ill fitting clothes
  • Low self-esteem

Liposuction is often used in conjunction with body lift procedures to clean out excess fatty areas that prove resistant to diet and exercise. This helps sculpt the body into the desired appearance. Providing liposuction at the same time as the body lift saves time and extra visits to the surgeon's office.

Procedure

Body lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia, and may take several hours.

The incision lines will vary depending on the scope of your particular surgery. The physician usually marks where incisions will be made, and indicates how much skin is to be removed in each area. The body lift can combine one or more of the following procedures into one surgery, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), thighplasty, buttock lift, and possibly other minor tucks as needed.

Recovery includes up to two days in the hospital, and several weeks after to be fully healed. Once the swelling goes down, Dr. Barber may need to see you again to tweak certain areas to ensure the look you want.

When deciding on a body lift to improve the shaping and contouring of your body, it is important to find a reputable surgeon who is part of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. James Barber is board certified and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
