Cosmetic Injectable Treatments

Serving Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

If you want to look younger longer, recent technological developments now give you more options than ever.  In addition to procedures like laser skin resurfacing that can help your skin maintain its fresh and youthful hue, cosmetic injectable treatments are revolutionizing the way people fight wrinkles and other signs of facial aging.

Botox and Collagen injections led the injectable revolution.  By providing an effective and non-invasive alternative to facial plastic surgery, they changed the way people looked at cosmetic treatments.  Although their effects were relatively short-term, the ability to combat wrinkles with virtually no downtime and little risk of side effects or complications, made them very popular.  Botox retains its popularity, accounting for nearly half of all cosmetic procedures performed every year--over a thousand times more common than breast augmentation or liposuction.

Today, Dr. Barber offers his patients a range of cosmetic injectable treatments.

  • Botox injections are used for treating wrinkles that are due to habitual muscle contractions.  It is good for wrinkles in the forehead area and crow's feet.
  • Collagen is not as long-lasting as the newer injectables, but for some applications, like lip augmentation, it gives great results.
  • Juvéderm is a smooth, hyaluronic acid-based injectable gel.  It is used as a facial filler that can correct deep nasolabial folds.  Its smooth texture leads to less irritation and inflammation at the injection site and quicker results. The smooth texture is also good for certain applications, like injection in people with thin skin and lip augmentation.  Some people see shorter results with Juvéderm than with Restylane.
  • Restylane and Perlane are hyaluronic acid-based injectables with a slightly granular texture.  This texture gives them a greater ability to firm up deep wrinkles, folds, and facial hollows.  However, the granular texture can also lead to slightly more irritation and inflammation at the injection site.

Injectable treatments are an exciting area of development in cosmetic surgery, and new treatments are becoming available all the time.  We expect to add more treatments as they are proven to be safe and effective.
